Festival Rules & Regulations

  1. All entrants must be aged 15 years old and above (entrants should be born on or before 31st Dec 2003)
  2. The Festival shall run strictly in accordance with the stipulated timeframe as stated in the Festival Details.
  3. Entrants must either be Singapore Citizens, Singapore PR or foreigners living in Singapore with a valid student or work visa or long-term visiting pass.
  4. Employees of the The Organizer and their immediate family members are not eligible for participation.
  5. All personal details submitted must be accurate and complete and are subject to proof upon request by the The Organizer. The Organizer reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants and to disqualify any entry not submitted in accordance with these Terms or which tampers with the entry process.
  6. Incomplete, indecipherable, illegible or incorrect entries or any entry which violates the Terms, will automatically be disqualified. Entries received after the Closing Date will be disqualified.
  7. The Organizer will not accept any responsibility for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged or undelivered. The Organizer shall not be responsible for technical errors in telecommunications networks, Internet access or otherwise preventing entry to the Contest.
  8. Co-written song entries (multiple songwriters) can be submitted for selection, however, consent from all songwriters have to be given to the entrant before submission.
  9. Entrants may submit multiple entries, with a maximum of 3 sets of lyrics and 3 sets of melody in total, no matter if submitted by themselves or other entrants. In the event of additional songs submitted, the latest 3 sets of lyrics and 3 sets of melody entry will be eligible for consideration. Accepted entries, for example:
    Scenario 1: 3 Lyrics by Songwriter A (Melodies by Songwriter B) + 3 Melodies by Songwriter A (Lyrics by Songwriter B)
    Scenario 2: 3 Lyrics & Melodies by Songwriter A
    Scenario 3: 2 Lyrics & Melodies by Songwriter A + 1 Song Lyrics by Songwriter A (Melody by Songwriter B) + 1 Song Melody by Songwriter A (Lyrics by Songwriter B)
  10. Any personal information, including without limitation, the songwriter’s name, age, address (including postcode), telephone number and/or email address will be used solely in connection with this Festival and will not be disclosed to any third party except for (a) the purpose of fulfilling the Prize where applicable and (b) for any marketing and promotion purpose, in relation to this Festival. If an entrant gives The Organizer permission to pass on his/her personal information to a third party, then the privacy policy of such third party handling the personal information shall apply and the handling of the songwriter’s information by such third party shall no longer be the responsibility of The Organizer.
  11. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore.
  12. The Organizer reserve the right to terminate the Festival or to modify the Festival rules and Terms prior to the Closing Date by amending the rules and Terms hereof at its sole and absolute discretion. Any such modifications shall be notified via the Festival Website, and such modifications shall be immediately effective and apply to all entries, including entries that have been submitted to The Organizer.
  1. The Open Call Submission is valid from 11 May 2018 to 9 July 2018 16 July 2018, 11.59PM.
  2. All entries must be submitted through our online submission site (sgsw-2.sgsw.sg), completed with the entrant’s Application Form, Song Demo & Lyrics.
  3. Song entries must be in original Mandarin compositions with completed music and lyrics. Lyrics should primarily be in Mandarin. The use of other languages is permitted, however, it should not take up more than 20% of the entire composition.
  4. Songs should be submitted in MP3 format only (file size not bigger than 7MB) through our Official Festival Website (www.sgsw-2.sgsw.sg). Hard-copy submissions will not be accepted.
  5. Submission of Lyrics in PDF format is compulsory. Full name of all Lyricist, Composer & Music Publisher (if any) should be stated clearly in the lyric document.
  6. Lyrics must not contain content that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, blasphemous, libelous, and offensive; or contain content that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred, or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or any inappropriate material or activity.
  7. The submitted song entries must not be songs that have been previously released in any physical (i.e. Single, EP and full-length album CD etc), and digital (i.e iTunes, Spotify, Kkbox etc) format for sale.
  8. Song demos must be backed by at least one musical instrument, eg: guitar or piano.
  9. All song entries must be received before 9 July 2018, 11.59PM (GMT +08:00)
  10. All song entries submitted will not be returned.

By registering and submitting entries for this Festival, the entrant declares, acknowledges and agrees that

  1. Contents of the entries submitted for the Festival are original works.
  2. The Organizer‘s right to remove and disqualify any entries which breach the copyright of any existing literary or musical works under the Copyright Act.
  3. The Organizer reserves all rights to use the names, photos, submitted song(s), audios, music and any other relevant information of the participant provided to The Organizer for marketing and promotional efforts for this festival without further notice and compensation.
  4. The “Best Song Award”, “Lyrics (Merit) Award”, “Melody (Merit) Award”, “Best Vocal Performance Award” and “Popularity Award (Public Voting)” will be produced into a and compiled into a physical and digital EP  for The Organizer’s use and dissemination, at The Organizer’s discretion. The Organizer reserves the rights to record, produce and release the “Best Song Award”, “Lyrics (Merit) Award”, “Melody (Merit) Award”, “Best Vocal Performance Award” and “Popularity Award (Public Voting)”  without any upfront royalty payment. Therefore, by submitting your original work for this festival, the songwriter(s) acknowledges and agrees that no upfront royalty fee will be required by the songwriters and their respective music publishers (if any) should the submitted song be recorded and released (as part of the winning prize).
  5. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the song and recover all prizes awarded to the songwriter(s) in addition to recovering any costs dispensed for the production of the winning songs.
  1. The song entries received through the Open Call will be curated, and 48 song entries will be selected to be showcased via live performances at various venues in August 2018. The entrants of the selected songs are required to decide on their song’s live performance format (be it as a solo act, group act or with a band etc).
  2. The song may be performed with a basic live band set-up (maximum 5-piece band exclude vocalists that comprises of guitars, bass, keyboard and drum), or performed alongside recorded music accompaniment (Minus-one track). However, it is compulsory for the song to be performed with at least 1 live music instrument (guitar, keyboard, ukulele etc).
  3. The engagement of any vocalists and musicians to perform their song at the Live Showcase will be at entrant’s own expense.
  4. It is compulsory for all selected entrants to submit their photos and personal particulars for the Festival promotional purposes.
  5. A standard backline – drum set, keyboard, guitar & bass amplifiers will be provided by The Organizer for the Live Showcases. Additional musical instruments required by the entrants are allowed at their own expense and subject to The Organizer’s consent.
  6. The Live Showcases will be filmed down in video and released online for public view and voting. Industry Professionals will also be onsite to curate on the songs performed.
  7. 12 entrants will be chosen at the end of the entire Live Showcases for Masterclasses & Performance at the Finale Concert.
  8. The Organizer reserves the right, without prejudice to any other rights under the Festival Terms & Conditions to decide and/or disqualify the entrants selected for the Masterclasses, and no correspondence pertaining to the decision will be entertained.
  1. Songwriters of the selected 12 songs for the Finale Concert, will be entitled to attend a fully-sponsored masterclass session where their songs will be individually heard and critiqued upon by established, renowned songwriters.
  2. With the tips and knowledge gained from the Masterclasses, the participating songwriters could improve on their song (if they wish to) to be presented at the Finale Concert on 29th September 2018.
  1. Similar to the Live Showcases, the entrants are required to decide on how they would like to present their song (performance format, accompanying background visuals etc)
  2. The song may be performed with a basic live band set-up (maximum 5-piece band exclude vocalists that comprises of guitars, bass, keyboard and drum), or performed alongside recorded music accompaniment (Minus-one track). However, it is compulsory for the song to be performed with at least 1 live music instrument (guitar, keyboard, ukulele etc).
  3. The engagement of any vocalists and musicians to perform their song at the Live Showcase will be at entrant’s own expense.
  4. Awards will be presented at the end of the Finale Concert to recognize outstanding songs presented at the Festival, with the most prestigious title being the “Best Song”.
  5. The awarded “Best Song”, “Lyrics (Merit)”, “Melody (Merit)”, “Best Vocal Performance” and “Popularity Award (Public Voting)” will then be professionally recorded, released and promoted on local radio stations and digital music platforms and/or physical album. The awardee of “Best Song”, “Lyrics (Merit)”, “Melody (Merit)”, “Best Vocal Performance” and “Popularity Award (Public Voting)” will be required to participate in media interviews for the promotion of the songs.
  6. Six Awards will be presented during the finale concert:
    1. Best Song Award
    2. Lyrics (Merit) Award
    3. Melody (Merit) Award
    4. Best Vocal Performance Award
    5. Popularity Award (Public Voting)
    6. Best Band Performance Award
